Jonaki

We were out on a stroll in the Orange valley , on a lazy afternoon.. The afterglow of the setting sun crimsoned the sky creating a perfect mirror image .. Air filled with the sounds of our chattering, whispering and giggling.. A perfect vacation mode was on.. We ended up into a road divider, right side of which led us to a mysterious path. Above us, was a dense forest and so was beneath . The path was as if stolen from the heart of the forest. As we went on and on, an unknown serenity engulfed us. Nature's own corner devoid of much human hindrance.. A sudden noise grabbed our attention , which turned out to be an echo of a peacock screaming somewhere far away .. I was thrilled on such encounter. The brisk walk was turning out to be an eventful venture filled with thrill , adventure and wildness combined into one. We don't know how long we stood there engulfing the mesmerising ambiance ..

Slowly we started on our way back guided by the moon light beating the brooding darkness .. I was enjoying the tranquility and purity of the place when suddenly noticed a firefly (Jonaki)..  I tried to reach out apparently to hold it but couldn't.. soon another followed.. and then another.. in less than a minute there were hundreds of them coming out with the prevailing darkness.. as if the stars descended to the ground from the sky.. I came across this in books and in dreams but never thought of witnessing something like this in real ..

Nature sometimes surprises us in a beautiful way.. but perhaps we miss in our haste to thank back..
